It is officially 2016: A Year of Faith and Peace. And we are kicking it off by announcing an incredible opportunity for adults to explore the sacred texts and rituals of four different faiths, and to join in discussion of the values that underlie our different practices and how they can bring us together in common purpose. The program will consist of lectures, immersive worship experiences, dinners, and discussions at four different houses of worship:
Judaism: Tuesday, March 22nd, Temple Israel
Sikhism: Wednesday, April 27th, Mata Tripta Ji Gurdwara Sahib
Christianity: Wednesday, May 18th, Christ Church Cranbrook
Islam: Wednesday, June 8th, Muslim Unity Center
Each event will open with a meal. As we sit at the table and break bread together, we will have a discussion about our shared values. The meals might be a chance to also explore the beliefs or practices of that faith, like a Jewish Sabbath meal with the blessings that are done at the table.
The evening will continue with a 45 minute lesson on that faith tradition. This segment will include a worship experience.
Then we will participate in a text study around the theme of Acceptance through the lens of our own faith traditions. Each leader will provide a text from their tradition about acceptance and our duty to be accepting of one another. And we will delve into what that means in how we relate to one another as we search for our shared values.
This is a unique chance to learn about faith traditions, get to know a great group of people, and explore ways in which we can come together through our own beliefs and values.
The cost is $75 for all four sessions, or $25 per session. It includes a textbook and dinner. We hope you will sign up for all four sessions so we can really get to know one another.
